Some emotions appear as pain before they become language. Some memories remain in posture and habit before they reach consciousness. Are the sensations we believe to be “our own” truly ours, or are they traces of the rules and frames that society has left on our skin? How much does our body know before we do?

This exhibition is titled "Patch." A patch serves many functions: it is a bandage that protects a wound, a piece that covers a hole, and a process of mending what is broken. It reveals where we hurt while showing how we heal. This exhibition explores the "patching" process—peeling away the labels placed on our bodies, protecting ourselves, and piecing ourselves back together.

Yoon treats the body as a vessel for history. Drawing on motherhood and the memories of Korean women, she reinterprets what it truly means to keep someone safe. Lily explores the body as both an object of care and a medium through which we extend that care to others; through skin, gesture, and    self-presentation, she challenges how we perceive ourselves and pushes back against external labels. For Qiqi, the body acts as an antenna—a primary receptor for emotion. When she feels anxious or hurt, she translates that physical tension into art.

While society constantly defines and conditions our bodies, this exhibition reimagines the body as a space for new meaning. Through clay, color, and gesture, these three artists reconnect the body with the world. Their work transcends the act of making; it is a way to communicate through the body. In this exhibition, we reflect on the new possibilities for our bodies—stripped of old patches—to engage with society on our own terms.

In East Asian philosophy, the Five Elements are more than merely the foundational components (Water, Fire, Metal, Earth, and Wood) that construct our universe. They represent the dynamic principle of movement threading through infinite time and space, as well as the human organism. At their intersections, they dictate the cyclical laws where creation, extinction, mutual generation, and mutual constraint endlessly interplay. These five energies encourage one another, at times restraining and at others permeating, ultimately forming a singular, harmonious source. In today’s fast-paced contemporary world, we live in an era marked by uncertainty and division. Amidst noisy disputes devoid of philosophy, the cyclical thinking of the Five Elements emerges anew as a language of harmony and a philosophy of regeneration, bridging human to human, humanity to nature, and past to future. It reminds us that despite our differences, we can coexist, and that every existing entity possesses its own innate worth. For this exhibition, five artists, each embodying one of the Five Elements, transcend the boundaries between emerging and established, visual and interdisciplinary arts, time and space, and creator and audience. Together, they resonate and reflect in unison. We invite you to stroll through this flow of time where the works of these five artists harmoniously intertwine along the path of the Five Elements, here at H.art1, a sanctuary where art gazes toward the future upon the historic grounds of Euljiro.
