Singing Docent, Hanyul Lee

After reading more than 600 letters exchanged between Vincent van Gogh and his brother Theo, vocalist Hanyul Lee was deeply moved by the quiet beauty of Van Gogh’s life and the conviction behind his art. Having worked as a docent at a municipal art museum, she began to imagine a new way of interpreting art—one that goes beyond words and brings artworks to life through music.

Inspired by Joseph Roulin, Van Gogh’s postman and friend, Lee becomes a present-day messenger, delivering Van Gogh’s letters to the audience through voice and song. Together with his paintings, the performance offers an intimate encounter with the artist beyond the familiar image of the “tragic painter.”

Through his words and music, audiences are invited to discover the beauty, resilience, and unwavering belief in art that shaped Van Gogh’s life.

보컬리스트 이한율은 고흐와 그의 동생 태오와 나눈 600 여통의 편지를 읽고 난 뒤, 고흐의 작품을 더욱 빛나게 하는 그의 삶의 숭고한 아름다움에 깊은 감명을 받았다. 시립미술관의 도슨트로 활동하던 그녀는 언어로써 작품을 설명하는 것을 넘어, 음악적 선율로 예술 작품을 관객들에게 전하는 <노래하는 도슨트>를 꿈꾸기 시작했다.

현시대의 우편배달부 룰랭을 꿈꾸는 보컬리스트 이한율, 그녀가 고흐로부터 도착한 편지를 관객들에게 전한다. 음악과 함께 마음의 문을 두드리는 고흐의 편지가 반 고흐의 아름다운 작품들과 함께 빛나는 밤을 선사한다.

비운의 화가로 알려져있는 고흐의 삶. 그러나 이 공연을 통해, 관객들은 고흐의 삶 속에 자리한 숭고한 아름다움과, 그의 예술을 향한 평온한 확신을 느낄 수 있을 것이다.
