Exhibition Statement

영웅은 은퇴하지 않는다. 다만 무대를 옮길 뿐이다. 김자연작가는 마블 슈퍼히어로들 안에서 고대 신화의 원형을 발견한다. 소비되는 대중문화의 아이콘이었던 영웅들은 별자리와 은하의 시공간 속으로 이동하며, 현대 신화의 주체로 다시 태어난다. 신화는 과거에 머무르지 않는다. 그것은 지금-여기에서 다시 쓰이고 있다. 영웅들은 아직 끝나지 않았다. 지금, 우주로 가는 중이다.

Heroes do not retire. They simply move to another stage. In Iris Kim’s work, Marvel superheroes are reimagined as figures of contemporary mythology. Once consumed as pop icons, they are relocated into constellations and cosmic space-time—reborn as modern myths. Myth is not fixed in the past. It is rewritten in the present. The heroes are not gone—they are still on their way, into space.
