To build a life is to gather and assemble scattered fragments. Each piece may appear incomplete on its own, yet when brought into relation, they form a structure—one that finds its own balance over time. This process is not a fixed composition, but a trajectory slowly unfolding.

Based in Los Angeles, April EJ Oh has spent over two decades working as a fashion designer. Her background—spanning fashion design in the United States and Japan, and contemporary jewelry in Italy—has cultivated a deep understanding of structure, material, and the repetitive labor of the hand. These sensibilities continue to inform
her textile practice, shaping both form and composition.

This exhibition begins with the traditional Korean technique of jogakbo , evolving into geometric forms and three-dimensional textile structures. Textile, thread, and paper—each carrying different textures and temporalities—are layered and assembled into a sensory structure. Rather than erasing what came before, the artist builds upon it, creating works that exist as accumulations of time.

Here, stitched lines function not merely as connections, but as thresholds—simultaneously boundaries and passages, sites of separation and continuity. These lines do not define a fixed form; instead, they trace movement, choice, and lived experience, revealing the trajectory of a life.

The “map” presented here does not offer a fixed route or destination. It is not a guide, but a record—an open structure shaped by time, decisions, and the quiet persistence of making.

For her, the act of making extends beyond creation; it is a way of moving through and organizing daily life. Within the rhythm of repeated gestures, instability settles into moments of balance, and tension transforms into quiet resolution. The resulting works become spaces of reflection, where dispersed experiences gather into a new order.

In the exhibition space, natural light enters and lingers. Passing through the window, it moves across the surface of textile, resonating with folds and structure. Shadows shift slowly, redrawing the work over time. The pieces do not remain fixed as objects, but exist as traces—formed through light, air, and duration.

What fragments do we gather as we live? What kind of trajectory do they form? Life is not a completed map, but a quiet trajectory—continuously unfolding through time.
